FAQs

FAQs

Do I need planning permission for security fencing?

In most cases, you do not need planning permission if the fence is 2 metres or lower. However, if the fencing is adjacent to a highway (or a footpath next to a highway), planning permission is generally required for anything over 1 metre in height.

You will also likely need permission if your property is a listed building, located within the curtilage of a listed building, or in a conservation area. We always recommend checking with your local planning authority before installation to confirm requirements for your specific site.

For effective security that acts as a genuine deterrent, we recommend a minimum height of 2.0 to 2.4 metres.

  • 1.8m – 2.0m: Suitable for low-to-medium risk sites, providing a clear boundary and demarcation.

  • 2.4m and above: The industry standard for higher security needs. Fences at this height are significantly more difficult to climb and can be fitted with additional security toppings (such as barbed wire or rotating spikes) if required.

Yes. We offer extensive customisation options to suit your security needs and branding requirements.

  • Colours: Fencing can be powder-coated in a wide range of RAL colours. While Green (RAL 6005) and Black (RAL 9005) are the most popular for blending into the environment, we can match your corporate brand colours (e.g., Blue, Red, Grey).

  • Gates: We can integrate matching single or double-leaf gates, as well as automated sliding gates for vehicle access.

  • Security Toppings: For high-security zones, we can add anti-climb spikes, razor wire, or rotating toppers.

Installation time varies depending on the total length of the perimeter, ground conditions, and site access.

Small to Medium Sites: A standard run of fencing (e.g., up to 40-50m) can typically be completed in 2 to 3 days.

Large Commercial Sites: Larger projects or those requiring complex groundworks may take 1 to 2 weeks. Once we survey your site, we can provide a precise timeline so you can plan accordingly.

Yes. While our security fencing is designed for durability and long service life, regular maintenance ensures it remains effective. We recommend and can assist with:

  • Annual Inspections: Checking for post stability, loose fixings, or tampering.

  • Gate Adjustments: Ensuring hinges and latches operate smoothly and align correctly.

  • Repairs: Promptly fixing any damage caused by vehicles, weather, or attempted intrusion to maintain the perimeter’s integrity.
